How to Transform Your Photos into Wooden
Amazing look
hello in this best lesson
Step by Step : Looking for a new way to display your photos?
( I always am, and this wood transfer was the perfect solution to fill an empty wall in one of my hallways! You can use a color OR a black and white photo. I choose photos that had a “sepia” tone to them, but could have just as easily done this using a color print. Here are the easy steps to creating your one-of-a-kind wood transfer image! )) ;

Tools and Materials:
- A photograph and a computer with Adobe Photoshop Elements
- Laser or inkjet printer and access to a photocopy machine
- Tree branch or wood slice
- Acrylic gel medium - you can find at the art supply store or the paint section of the craft shop. It's basically acrylic paint without any pigments
- Scissors and a pencil
- Small paint brush
- Drill and drill bit (for creating a hole for hanging)
- first your need to flip an image. Photoshop makes this incredibly easy, whether you're flipping the whole image
Steps
-Then : using your foam brush, apply a layer of medium mat gel to the surface of the timber, uniformly coating all the way to the edges.
Then slowly place your photo printing laser face on top of your wooden block. Attention once it is down, it will be difficult to remove without damaging the image. Once in place, use a hard object (credit card or, in my example a cake decorating tool) flat to flatten the paper and remove any air bubbles that may be trapped.
Take a damp rag and wet the paper backing. You will want to get this pretty wet. You will start to see the image through the wet paper. With your fingers, begin to gently remove the paper. Keep re-wetting the paper as you rub through the layers of the paper.
Here comes the fun (and messy) part! Once the paper is good and damp, use your fingers to rub away the paper fiber. It should come off pretty easily in tiny little rolls, like shown below. You’ll be left with your laser transfer underneath!
Brush on one more coat of acrylic medium - just a nice, even layer, neither thick nor thin - then place your image face down on the acrylic. Use a credit card or bone folder to smooth out any air bubbles, then turn it over (paper side down) and allow to dry for at least two hours, or as long as overnight.
Note // Be patient with this step. It will take you a bit of time to fully expose the picture. If you rush this, you can rub right through the picture. Remember, this is a handmade project so if some does rub off that just adds character.
- let it dry. Once your picture looks the way you want, let it dry.
If there is still a film over the photo when it dries just add more water and continue to rub gently. A little film on the top will be fine once you add the sealer.

Enfin ; Once the paper is rubbed entirely off the wood block, it’s time to seal the transfer. ((I used the same foam brush (after washing completely clean) to apply a thin layer of Mod Podge on the top surface. Below, my completed wood transfer. I love the look! ))
